    "head_matter": "Fayetteville,\nApril Term, 1791.\nSKIPPER versus HARGROVE.\nDETINUE. Non detinet and statute of limitations pleaded. The jury brought the following special verdict.\n\u201c The Jury sworn, find the defendant doth detain the negroes as \"set forth in the plaintiff's declaration, to wit, Patience of the price \"of two hundred pounds, Ally, of the price of \u00a3. 100, and Violet, \u201cof the price of \u00a3. 100. They farther find, that the negro Bet, al\"so set forth in the plaintiff\u2019s declaration, was at the time demanded, \u201cin possession of the defendant, and the property of the plain\"tiff; that she was demanded of the defendant, who refused to de\u201cliver her up, and that she is since dead. If the law is in favor \u201cof the plaintiff, they find the defendant doth detain the said ne\u201cgro Bet of the price of \u00a3. 50, and if the law is in favor of the \u201cdefendant, then that she doth not detain the said negro Bet, and \u201cassess the plaintiff\u2019s damage, to 6 and 6d. costs.\u201d"
